On December 16, 2021, Typhoon Rai struck the Siargao Islands in the Philippines as a Category 5 super typhoon. The island was left devastated within hours: over 2.5 million families were affected, and massive damage, totalling ₱20 billion (US$400 million), was done to infrastructure and facilities.
WEA responded immediately by making an emergency donation to affected families to help them get through tough times.
